Founded in 1989, this company is huge and works with IKEA, Disney, Boeing, and more. It currently has $15 billion in annual revenue and serves over 50,000 customers. It is the second largest LTL (less than truckload) carrier in the US. Their US headquarters is in Greenwich, Connecticut. They have the largest fleet in Europe, and in Western Europe, they are the leading LTL carrier.

3.  J.B. Hunt

J.B. Hunt, named after its founder, Johnnie Bryan Hunt, is based in Lowell, Arkansas. They were incorporated in 1961. Today, the company has grown to annual revenues of $7 billion, and operates in Mexico and Canada, in addition to the US. They employ 22,000 people.

2.  FedEx Ground

FedEx Ground was originally called RPSand was conceived as a low-cost alternative to UPS. They teamed up with Federal Express in 1998 and rebranded as FedEx in 2002. Headquartered in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, they now earn about $50.3 billion in annual revenue.

1. UPS

UPS is the world’s largest package delivery company. They earn about $60.9 billion in annual revenue. They are based in Sandy Springs, Georgia, which is in the Atlanta area. They also own their own freight and cargo airline, which is based out of Louisville, Kentucky. Always at the forefront of package delivery, they launched their next day air service in 1985, way ahead of others.  They acquired Mailboxes, Etc. in 2001 and rebranded them in 2003 as “The UPS Store.” UPS employs 362,000 people in the United States alone.

This rounds out the top five trucking companies in the nation. Some are in direct competition, and some are in a different niche from one another.
